French Drain Installation

Yard drainage problems are a big issue for many homeowners in the North Houston area.  Leakage of water into the basement can cause structural damage and be expensive to repair.  If left unattended, water in the basement can cause a dangerous build-up of mold and compromise the foundation of your home.

The good news is that there is an easy fix for these drainage issues and Affordable Drainage of North Houston has 25 years of experience in doing just that.  French Drains are trenches that are filled with gravel and contain a perforated pipe to redirect water away from a problem area.  One can be relatively easily installed, and will immediately eliminate the worry of water seeping into the basement or ruining the foundation of a home.

French drains are used to solve a variety of issues, from keeping water away from a structure to directing the water away from a problem area in the lawn, to relieving groundwater pressure behind retaining walls. If you have an area of your yard that doesn’t dry quickly, then a French drain may be your solution.  Affordable Drainage of North Houston specializes in French drain installation in the Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia, Tomball, Cypress and surrounding areas of North Houston, TX.

What Are French Drain Systems?

A French drain is a trench you cover in drainage rock. It’s connected to pipes that guide water away from your home or out of troubled areas in your yard. The beginning of French drains is the elevated or highest end of the drain and this area is called the drain field. The drain field and surrounding areas is where the groundwater or excess surface water enters the drain rock and percolates into the drainpipes. The second part is the outlet where all of the water drains out.  In a proper French drain application, water will also enter the drainage system in the middle areas of the drain and flow out.

There is also the option of a pipe-less French drain, however in North Houston, this is fairly uncommon. A pipe-less French drain doesn’t have a pipe and has more internal resistance to the flow of water, thus, it can’t evacuate as much surface water.

How Do French Drains Work?

Water will always look for the lowest point along the most straightforward path and quickly move in loose soil into empty pockets in the earth. That is where a professionally installed French drain comes in. It provides this path and creates a free-flowing channel, encouraging water to drain out along a smooth course.

In order for a French drain to function properly, it must use gravity as it initially forces the water down from the surface from saturated soil, pulling it along the downward-sloping pipe to the appropriate discharge area.  The majority of the time that area is thru a curb in the street.  Affordable Drainage of North Houston has years of experience in the design and installation of all French Drain systems in The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, and surrounding areas.
